Chris Holden, “Cluster Bomblets, Iraq (3)” (2003) UK artist Chris Holden has dedicated his artistic practice to speaking out against war. Above is one set of several of his cluster bomblet works, which portray the contradictory statements released from government officials about the US’s interest in protecting civilians in Iraq. Cluster bombs are an especially high risk to civilians in war-torn areas, as many are spread over a wide area as they are dropped, and may remain active for long periods of time. These photos, which I hope also function as installation, bring the potential realities closer to home, linking civilians to civilians, demonstrating that war is never as clean-cut as just getting the “bad guys.”
